The dream of a high performance building concentrates significant money and time on conception, design, construction, commissioning and even certification. Beaming project teams, building owners and occupants are properly thrilled at the ribbon cutting. Expert design teams, contractors and professionals pack up and move onto the next project. Now what? Who maintains those delicately balanced cutting edge systems? Who operates them day to day? How quickly can an occupant or well-meaning maintenance person defeat a high performance system creating a situation which easily sets the building to consume more energy and resources than a similar conventional building?
