To commemorate "High Performance Building Week," Rep. Carnahan, co-chair of the High-Performance Building Congressional Caucus along with members of the High-Performance Building Congressional Caucus Coalition, toured the newly renovated Constitution Center, a stand-out example of the benefits of high-performance buildings and the positive impact of the built environment.
Constitution Center is the most energy efficient building in the District, and the largest office renovation project in the U.S. on track to achieve a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold rating, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to measure energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources.
Facts on Constitution Center:
- Most energy efficient office building in the District
- Fresh water usage cut by 3 million gallons per year
- All drinking water centrally filtered to achieve the quality of bottled water
- HVAC system utilizes chilled beam technology initially developed in Europe
- Eleven-fold increase in planted greenspace compared to prior building
- Private, secure one-acre courtyard park for building occupants
- Every building occupant will work within 45 feet of abundant natural light
Unmatched access to public transportation represents future of major project site location:
